Wright’s challenge here to Christian musicians and song writers is apt and timely. Without needing to buy into any ‘traditionalist’ debate, entertain cultural bias or issues of musical preference, we would do well to take on board Wright’s main point- namely, that far from remaining mere ‘imitators’ of contemporary styles we should strive to become ‘innovators’ and sing a distinctively ‘new song’to the Lord- a song that will have lasting hope.
