Can God hinder evil?

What do you mean by “hinder?”

Great thoughts. But in my understanding, Oord’s conclusion is totally compatible with the idea of “allowing” evil. Yet God allows because of God’s character as love, not by sheer will or fiat (nominalism). As a pastor, I think the idea of hi allowing evil should be reclaimed and redefined, not abandoned. Thanks for putting this out there!

Tom,
Thanks for your good work.
I am thankful for God’s love. After listening through your talk a couple of times I thought, “Even though God may not be able to prevent genuine evil it does not mean that it goes unaddressed in God’s eyes.”
I believe that God, through prevenient grace, through you and me and other Christ followers, is ever about pushing back against the genuine evil that arises out of the distortion of freedom and agency in the world. Genuine evil does not have the last word. There is a time that it will be addressed and there is one that will address it—the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Root of David, the Lamb who looked as if it had been slain…the God who is love. Come Lord Jesus, Come!
Keep on,
Ryan
